Weekend Watch: Asian Street Festival in DC

Filed Under:

The coolest ticket in town this weekend: the annual Fiesta Asia Street Festival in DC and the Dragon Boat Races at the Georgetown waterfront.

The street festival takes place Saturday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. along Pennsylvania Ave. (between 3rd and 6th Sts. NW), with Pan-Asian foods, live performances of music and dance, a parade, martial arts demonstrations, artisans, and a lion dance competition. FREE admission.

The Dragon Boat Races run both Saturday and Sunday, noon to 5 p.m. on the Potomac River. From the Georgetown waterfront you can see the 60+ dragon boat teams race against each other, as well as live Taiwanese dance and music performances (including the famous Ten Drum Art percussion group). FREE admission. For the best views, head to the Thompson's Boathouse Center (2900 Virginia Ave. NW).

UPDATE from reader Allison Riley, who says, "The Dragon Boat Races have been postponed until further notice, due to the flood conditions on the Potomac." Stay tuned for the reschedule date. But the street festival is still ON, and the weather is expected to clear in time to enjoy it!
