World's best lemonade, this weekend in Ashburn

Filed Under:

Thanks to DCB reader Jennifer Militello for sharing the announcement of a very special event taking place on Saturday in Ashburn, VA:

WHAT: The Children Helping Children Second Annual Lemonade Stand, supporting Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation for Childhood Cancer Awareness Month (September) and Pediatric Brain Tumor Awareness Day (September 30th). Also benefiting Taylor Love and the Children's Neuroblastoma Cancer Foundation.

WHEN: Saturday, September 22, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

WHERE: In front of Rita's Water Ice, 44050 Ashburn Village Shopping Center, Suite 155.

Jennifer also shared with me the moving story of a local child, two-year-old Taylor Love, who has neuroblastoma, a devastating pediatric cancer.

On September 10, five fathers (including Mike Love, Taylor's dad) set out on a 3,800-mile non-stop bike trip called The Loneliest Road Campaign from Sacramento, CA to Washington, DC. This campaign is an attempt to raise much needed funding and awareness for childhood cancer. Each father in the campaign has a child suffering from neuroblastoma in its fourth stage. Each child only has a 20 to 30 percent chance of survival, with a 50 percent relapse rate. The dads' goal is to raise $3 million for a new treatment they believe will help add years to their children's lives, to raise awareness, and to increase funding to find a cure. Learn more about their effort - and contribute your support - at www.loneliestroad.org.
