Weekend Watch: Child's Play on the Pike

Filed Under:

If you have a copy of the first edition of my book, you know that one of my favorite picks was Barston's Child's Play in Chevy Chase/Upper NW DC (5536 Connecticut Ave.), just around the corner from my favorite children's shoe store, Ramer's, and the beloved Avalon Theater. This weekend, Barstons Child's Play opens a NEW LOCATION in Rockville, at Congressional Plaza (1661 Rockville Pike).

Saturday and Sunday there will be special events at the new Rockville store, including storytimes, puppet shows, arts/crafts, and music. Stop by and check out their new digs!

For those of you who don't have the first edition of my book, here's an excerpt from my review of the Connecticut Ave. Child's Play store:

"If you like knowledgeable salespeople who offer to help you and really know their inventory, if you value educational and imaginative toys, and if you prefer to shop with your kids without the overstimulation of a big warehouse, you'll appreciate Barston's Child's Play... This small, independently owned toy store in the District...has a great stock of moderately-priced toys, games, puzzles, trains, dress-up clothes and costumes, arts and crafts, books, and music. They also feature many of the most affordable toys you'd find at a big warehouse store, made by the well-known manufacturers, though their offerings in the 'blaring and electronic' niche are few."

You can reach the new Rockville store at 301.230.9040.
