Weekend Watch: Child-Friendly Festival in Takoma Park

Filed Under:

Get out and about this weekend!

My pick for families with little ones: Sunday's Takoma Park Folk Festival in Maryland, 11 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. This is a FREE and incredibly child-friendly annual soiree with a special kids' stage designed for audience participation.

Children's performers include singer Uncle Pete, storyteller Elloise Schoettler, performing duo Tom Proutt and Emily McCormick, storyteller Cindy Rosen, hip-hop youth dance troupe Future Shock, music from No Blow & the Bushwackers, and the beloved Frank "Banjo Man" Cassel (who also plays regularly for kids at the Takoma Park Farmer's Market, and will be a "roaming performer" at the festival).

Near the kids' stage, there will be a hands-on children's arts and crafts area hosted by Abrakadoodle. There will be lots of food. And proceeds benefit local youth charities.
