Prenatal Pilates & Yoga Techniques for Labor Relief

Filed Under:

Two opportunities for expectant mamas to get some much-deserved TLC (and even get the expectant dads involved!). Both of these are worth looking into even if this isn't your first ride on the pregnancy rollercoaster. Not your usual prenatal fitness/education. They're unique classes that I wish had been accessible to me when I was pregnant:

1.) Local mama Megan Bellamy Brown (whose "new" baby boy is already four months old!) is starting a weekend Prenatal Pilates class at NeuroPT and Evolution Pilates in Alexandria, VA. The first session is this Saturday, September 23, from 11 a.m. to 12 noon.

The eight-week session offers specialized and safe attention throughout your pregnancy, teaching proper posture and body mechanics to prevent back pain and other muscular problems. This Pilates class emphasizes total body strength, balance, and breathing control, with a focus on conditioning the pelvic floor muscles. For more info or to register, check out www.neuropt.net or email Megan directly at: megan (at) neuropt (dot) net.

2.) Also in Alexandria: Pure Prana Yoga in Old Town will host a Yoga Prenatal Workshop for expectant couples, designed to help give the dads tools and techniques to comfort mom and ease her labor pain, maximize comfort and the steady progression of labor, and support ease of breathing.

The workshop is set for the evening of Friday, October 20, and pre-registration is required. Depending on the level of interest, Pure Prana may offer this workshop as a continuing series! For more info or to register, check out www.pureprana.com or call the studio at 703.836.PURE.
